My decision to isolate these particular sounds cultivates an identification of that simplicity of the medium. I chose uneven counts within each frame to exemplify masses of hearts beating and masses of breathing. For the multi-level sounds, besides my own, I used 3 friends' heart beats and their breathing. A kind of mesmerizing sound brings to mind a sense of unknown masses of people who are confronted with an immediate presence of each other. At times the use of the multi-track accelerated the sensation of the sound. By stretching the speed of sound both on the solo and multi-tracks the result produced an eeriness. Compressing the sound and slowing it down produced a cryptic sensation. My work concerns the psychophysical in movement. The types of culturally reinforced images that I have used convey a psychophysical existence of form, the way that mass bends and shapes space by its very presence. It is the way radical movement breaks up space. Working with sound enables me to further my painting ideas about that kind of shift that happens between the intellectual, emotional, spiritual and physical human conditions. Sound frequencies are similar in that they shift and change and alternately move within given frames. Generating visual images and sound frequencies allows me to use a type of transitional veiled space.
